Frequently asked

Questions.

Do I need planning permission for a rear extension in Berkshire?+

Most single-storey rear extensions in Reading, Slough, Wokingham and the Royal Borough fall under permitted development — up to 6m on detached properties and 4m on semis / terraces, subject to the prior-approval neighbour-consultation scheme. Wrap-around, two-storey and conservation-area extensions (Henley, Marlow, Old Windsor) require a full planning application. We confirm the route, submit the drawings and manage the council on your behalf in your fixed quote.

How much does a rear extension cost?+

Every SIB extension is bespoke — Crittall glazing, roof lanterns, structural steels, polished-concrete or engineered-oak floors, kitchen integration and finishing are all specified to your home. We do not publish per-square-metre prices because real costs depend on access, ground conditions, glazing spec and finish. Book a free site visit — Guri will deliver a fixed-price quote within days.

Can you match my existing brickwork?+

Yes — we source reclaimed Victorian and Edwardian stock bricks from approved UK yards and blend bespoke mortar mixes on site to match colour, joint and weathering. For 1930s semis we hand-pick London Yellow and red multi blends; for modern homes we deliver flush-blended buff or charcoal facing brick to match the existing elevation seamlessly.

How long does a rear extension take to build?+

A standard 25–35 m² single-storey rear extension with kitchen integration runs 10–16 weeks from foundation strike to handover, including roof, glazing, plastering, electrics, plumbing, flooring and decoration. Larger wrap-around or double-storey builds typically run 16–22 weeks. You receive a dated programme in your fixed quote so you can plan around the works.

Do you build double-storey and wrap-around extensions?+

Yes — double-storey rears, side returns, wrap-arounds and Juliet-balcony extensions are a significant part of our portfolio across Berkshire and west London. Each requires full planning, party-wall agreements and structural engineering, all of which we handle in-house as part of your single SIB contract.
